10 Craig street, Brantford

Part1- This part was to fit-out the existing WWTP central building. The works covered by Eyeco Inc. in this part were to demolish, sawcut, mill, remove, and dispose of existing concrete slab-on[1]grade, excavate the existing soil under the removed concrete slab-on-grade up to a depth of around 3.5m, design and execute a temporary shoring system beside the building’s existing walls (It is worth mentioning that Eyeco Inc. having the Certificate of Authorization from the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is an specialist in the field of design and execution of various types of shoring systems), and to supply, place, and compact granular materials on the excavated surface, supply and pour a lean concrete layer on the compacted granular layer, supply and install rebars and dowel bars with different shapes and sizes, supply and execute formworks and falseworks, as well as to supply, pour, consolidate, finish, cure, and protect concrete for interior pit, interior trench, and a new concrete slab[1]on-grade, and to coat the final surface with a special coating epoxy product plus backfilling operation. In this part, the design and execution of the temporary shoring system was a big challenge, because the excavated walls should be made very close to the building walls and footings, and there was a huge possibility for the building walls and accordingly the whole building structure to collapse due to the vibration of the drilling machines. So, Eyeco Inc. considered this important issue among the design factors, and proposed a special low-vibration drilling process using hollow bars poured by cement[1]sand grout accordingly. In addition, Eyeco Inc. designed and executed a tieback and anchorage system plus a welded wire mesh reinforced concrete wall in front of the shoring system to decrease the unexcavated soil lateral pressure to the extent possible, and the anchorages were distressed and fixed on the surface of the concrete wall.
